Andrei Kobyakov met with Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations

Belarus considers the United Nations as a universal organization to address the key issues of our time. This was stated by Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov at a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator of the UNDP, the regional director for Europe, CIS and Baltic Cihan Sultanoglu.

Andrei Kobyakov said that Belarus takes an active role at the United Nations and considers it the only universal organization in the global arena, the only tool for decision-making on key issues of our time. According to him, the relations between Belarus and the United Nations have the closest character. Belarus, as one of the states - founders of the organization takes a momentary consistent position in support of the UN.

The Belarusian head of government stressed that the positive dynamics of relations between the UN and Belarus largely relates to personal involvement in this process Cihan Sultanoglu.

In turn, Cihan Sultanoglu suggested that Belarus in recent years achieved obvious progress in the socio-economic development and that there is a lot of evidence. For example, low levels of maternal mortality. In addition, she noted that a very rapidly developing country's capital, changed its appearance.

Also during the meeting sides gave a positive evaluation of the assistance provided by UNDP on integration of Belarus into the world trading system, the introduction of e-government, harmonization of standards of protection of personal data, increasing the participation of women in political and economic life of the country, increase of energy efficiency, promotion of healthy lifestyle, the prevention of HIV / AIDS.

In addition, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of the international advisory and technical assistance to Belarus UNDP.

Special attention during the meeting was given on the interaction on Chernobyl in the context of the approaching 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. Given that UNDP is coordinating international cooperation on Chernobyl, the sides discussed the development of new policy approaches of the United Nations in this field and holding commemorative events in April 2016.

During the meeting also noted the interest of Belarus in further expansion of cooperation with UNDP and other UN organizations.
