№ 387

Minimum wage in Belarus to rise by 5.1% in May

With Resolution No.387 of 26 April 2012 the Council of Ministers approved a new per capita minimum wage. In May NMW will amount to Br743,020, up 5.1% from its level in February-April 2012 (Br706,880).

NMW equals Br809,440 for workers, Br610,370 for pensioners, Br641,890 for children under 3, Br792,700 for children aged between 3 and 6, Br831,170 for children aged between 6 and 18, Br758,530 for university students.

May’s rise in NMW will boost public welfares and social pensions.

The minimum wage is quarterly revised taking into account the prices of the last month of each quarter. Under the law “Concerning the minimum wage in the Republic of Belarus” NMW is meant for the living standard analysis and prediction, extension of public assistance to low-income citizens (families), provision of minimal state social and labor guarantees.

The National Minimum Wage is a minimum amount per month that most workers in Belarus are entitled to be paid.
