Belarus approves Sustainable Energy and Energy Efficiency program for 2026-2030

Belarus has approved the Sustainable Energy and Energy Efficiency state program for 2026-2030. The corresponding resolution was signed by Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin.

The state program aims to enhance the national economy’s energy efficiency and boost the country’s energy independence. This will be achieved by incorporating local fuel and energy resources, including renewables, into the national energy balance to reliably and efficiently meet the demand for affordable energy from both the real economy and households.

The implementation of the program will contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level, including Goal No. 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.

The state program sets consolidated target indicators: a 4% reduction in the GDP energy intensity, the main criterion for the economy’s energy efficiency, by 2030 relative to 2025, given a GDP growth rate of 115.8%, and an increase in the country’s energy self-sufficiency by boosting the use of local fuel and energy resources to at least 33% by 2030.

The state program includes three subprograms designed to meet its overall targets: Improved Efficiency of Fuel and Energy Resource Use, Greater Energy Self-Sufficiency, and Balanced Development and Modernization of the Energy Sector.

The program also includes plans for the implementation of a broad list of infrastructure facilities.
