Belarus Government rules out state support for buying imported seeds for agriculture

The Government has excluded state support for buying imported seeds for agricultural needs. The relevant resolution of the Council of Ministers has been signed by Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin.

The resolution provides for directing budget funds towards the purchase of plant seeds produced (grown) in Belarus as well as imported seeds which production on the territory of the republic is insufficient due to objective reasons (seeds of alfalfa, corn, and vegetables).

State support for the purchase of seeds is provided in the form of soft loans and direct budget payments. Resolution No.9 signed by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus on 12 January 2026 established a restriction on providing soft loans for the purchase of imported seeds. The procedure for providing subsidies from municipal budgets to agribusiness entities for the purchase of seeds of agricultural plants is stipulated by Council of Ministers resolution No.954 of 9 October 2014, which is now amended.

In 2026 municipal budgets are expected to allocate subsidies to the tune of Br26.9 million for the purchase of seeds.
